Throughout the gameplay of Ragnarok Online, the player must eventually choose a class for their character. The choice of class can be quite important to rest of the gameplay with that character, and while all classes are playable, they provide different experiences in the game. Some classes are easier for newcomers, while other classes require to have more in-game resources such as zeny (Ragnarok Online in-game currency) and items.

There are some classes in Ragnarok Online which can be played solo. In MMORPG language, solo means playing without a party or playing without other people, and it means being able to play the game with only this character.

Beginners should not worry about choosing the "right class" at the beginning, since they still have much to learn about the game, and they are able to create additional game characters later on if they desire to try different classes. While all of the classes I listed in this section are playable by beginners, in my opinion, the easiest ones for beginners are Swordsman (later Knight), Archer (later Hunter) and Thief (later Assassin). The other classes, while being playable, can be somewhat tricky to new players if these are new to MMORPGs or new to RPGs in general.

The best class to start in Ragnarok Online depends on the amount of knowledge the player has about the game. If the player is completely new to Ragnarok Online, then I suggest either Swordsman (later Knight), Thief (later Assassin) or Archer (later Hunter). These classes are generally easy to learn, they do not require the player to farm much zeny in order to progress (as would a Wizard character for example, in many cases) and they provide an interesting gameplay. While the best class to play is always the class you enjoy the most, some classes can be more complicated for beginners, and some classes usually require more zeny in order to progress in the game. For this reason, Swordsman, Thief and Archer are excellent class choices for those who want to start in Ragnarok Online.

If you are a returning player, if you have previous knowledge of Ragnarok Online, then you may choose to start with a Thief (later Rogue), since this class is ideal for farming zeny and items in the early stages. Another strategic choice if Archer (later Hunter) for soloing instances and dungeons, especially as a Ranger. The Rogue and the Hunter classes are strategic choices for players who already have knowledge of Ragnarok Online and are looking for the fastest way to obtain zeny and better items.

What Is the Easiest Solo Class of Ragnarok Online?

The easiest solo classes of Ragnarok Online are the ones that do not require previous knowledge of the game, that do not require high zeny investment and that are able to solo most of the content of Ragnarok Online. These classes are the same as the ones I usually suggest for beginners in the game: Swordsman (later Knight), Archer (later Hunter) and Thief (later Assassin). These three classes are able to solo through most of the content in Ragnarok Online, are great for beginners, and are easy to play regardless of the experience of the player with Ragnarok Online or with other MMORPGs.

What Is the Best Solo Farming Class on Ragnarok Online?

In general, the best solo class to farm zeny, or for farming, on Ragnarok Online, is a class that is able to defeat monsters in the game on their own, while also requiring little to no zeny investment in order to maintain or to equip. In other words, these are often "cheap build" classes, since they require they do not require as much investment as other classes would.

In my perspective, the best class to farm zeny in Ragnarok Online, at the beginning, is certainly the Rogue (later Stalker), as most Rogue builds do not require investments, as Rogues benefit from great agility and thus do not require as many potions as other classes. Rogues also have unique abilities that help them farm an increased amount of items and zeny from Ragnarok Online monsters. For this reason, Rogues are often considered the ideal farming class of Ragnarok Online.

However, while the Rogue is the ideal class for newcomers to farm zeny in Ragnarok Online, more ambitious players, who are looking to farm Ragnarok Online's dungeons and instances for higher amounts of zeny and more valuable items, may want to consider the Hunter (later Ranger) class as a very strategic choice for soloing dungeons and instances.

One interesting class to consider for farming on Ragnarok Online is the Blacksmith (later Mastersmith) as this class has the unique Greed skill, which allows characters of this class to instantly pick all items in a radius of the character. For this reason, Blacksmith and Mastersmith characters, with the appropriate build, and in certain locations, such as some dungeons, can be excellent choices for farming items and zeny. Blacksmith and Mastermith characters can use the AoE (area of effect) skill Cart Revolution. However, it must be noted that Blacksmith and Mastermith characters often require higher zeny investments than a Rogue or a Ranger, and for this reason, Blacksmith and Mastersmith characters should be considered by new players only with caution. I suggest Blacksmith and Mastermith characters for farming only for players who have already played Ragnarok Online for some time and already have a considerable amount of zeny, equipment and items. Beginners should probably choose either a Swordsman (later Knight), an Archer (later Hunter) or a Thief (later Assassin), as these classes do not require significant investment of zeny to progress in the game.

What Is the Best Solo Class for Instances and Dungeons in Ragnarok Online?

As previously stated in this article, while the Rogue class can be quite useful in farming items and zeny in Ragnarok Online, for more ambitious players who are thinking about soloing instances and dungeons in search of more valuable items and higher amounts of zeny, the Hunter (later Ranger) class is a strategic choice as characters of this class are able to solo many instances and dungeons with their Arrow Storm skill.

While the Ranger is perhaps one of the best choices for soloing instances and dungeons in Ragnarok Online, it is also possible to solo instances and dungeons with an Assassin Cross character and with a Lord Knight character.

What Is the Fastest Leveling Class of Ragnarok Online?

The fastest leveling classes of Ragnarok Online are the ones that are able to either use AoE (area of effect) skills in order to defeat multiple enemies at the same time or classes that are to cause a lot of damage to single enemies. In general, the fastest leveling classes of Ragnarok Online are the Archer (later Hunter) and the Thief (later Assassin), as these classes are able to deal high amounts of damage, while also not needing many potions, as Archer characters can position themselves strategically to defeat monsters before the monsters get near them, and Thief characters often have a high agility, and thus, a high evasion rate, allowing them to evade most of the monster attacks.

How to Decide the Best Class to Play in Ragnarok Online

When deciding which class to play, considering whether this is your first time playing Ragnarok Online. If you are starting in Ragnarok Online, then I recommend one of the beginner classes, such as Swordsman, Archer or Thief. In general, the best class to play is the class you like the most, while some classes will benefit more from knowledge of the game and from playing in groups. If you have no knowledge of Ragnarok Online and if you don't know whether you will be playing in groups or solo, then I once again suggest the beginner classes: Swordsman, Archer or Thief, as these are easy to start and they can be played solo. If you already have some knowledge of Ragnarok Online and are trying to decide which is the best class for you, I suggest to pay attention to the gameplay of each class, as this will greatly affect your experience playing with that class in the future. For example, Knight characters often stand in the front of battle, while Wizard characters often stand in the back dealing damage from afar, while Priest characters heal group members, and so on. Pay attention to these differences and you will understand which role you want to play in Ragnarok Online.
