I have been playing games over the last two decades (roughly, 20 years of gameplay experience). Though I haven't played video games during all phases of my life, I have played them for most of my life. I have been playing video games for a considerable time, and I have thousands of hours of gameplay time overall across different video games, video games genres and platforms.

I do not know everything there is to know about video games. However, considering that I have likely played most video games than the average person, I may be able to provide some insightful analysis into different video games that may help people.

How Is Research Made in The Video Game Literate?

The Video Game Literate uses a variety of sources of research for writing articles and producing content. The main and most important source of information and research are always the video games themselves, and this research is done mostly through playing these video games. For general information, such as year of release of a specific game, or names of development studios and publishers related to specific titles, Wikipedia is often used as source, in which case the Wikipedia page is mentioned at the end of the article. However, for most of the content in The Video Game Literate, research is done through gameplay.

In some cases in which a more empirical research is performed, The Video Game Literate will often experiment with these video games to measure the outcomes. In these cases of original research, the results are published in the same article they are mentioned.

How Many Games Has The Video Game Literate Played, Roughly?

Of course, I haven't played all video games that exist. However, I did play a lot of them. While I don't know the exact number of how many games I've played, I'm pretty sure I have played hundreds of video games, if not thousands. I must have played close to a hundred different MMORPGs, dozens of real-time strategy (RTS) games, dozens of FPS (first-person shooter) games, dozens of action games, and many more RPGs, open world games, simulation games, horror games and so on. I must have thousands of hours of gameplay throughout my life in different games and in different platforms.

My first games were mostly FPS games, fighting games and platformer games. Later, as I grew older, I discovered MMORPGs, and really liked them, because they were in fact the first RPGs I ever played in my life, and I enjoyed their social aspect while also developing my game character. After MMORPGs, I eventually moved to single player RPGs. I have played video games on personal computers (PCs), on consoles and on mobile devices.

I also always enjoyed strategy games. They were among my first video game genres, after FPS, fighting and platforming games. I had played many strategy games for years, and then I moved to MOBAs (multiplayer online battle arena), and played MOBAs for some years. In MOBAs, I always enjoyed the fast-paced combat gameplay and the strategy planning in order to win a competitive match. I loved the thrill of MOBAs.

Which Games Does The Video Game Literate Play Now?

Currently, I play many different genres at the same time. I keep different games installed, so I can play games of different genres at any time. I usually always have installed one RPG, one strategy game, one immersive sandbox simulation, one open world game, one horror game, one fighting game and one racing game. I guess that means those are the genres I play the most these days, or at least, during the time I was writing this. However, I have maintained this games "structure" for some years now, so I don't think it's gonna change anytime soon. If it does change, it will likely expand and include more genres.

Do You Know Everything About Games?

Of course I don't know everything about games. I have some knowledge and information regarding games, and this allows me to write about games and help people learn more about and discover more about their favorite video games.

Crusader Kings II
Mount & Blade: Warband
Ragnarök Online (Pre-Renewal Era)
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
