The Best Heroes of Vainglory for New Players
Vainglory is a competitive MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena). Vainglory was developed and published by Super Evil Megacorp. Due to its competitiveness and its ranking systems, new players and beginners in Vainglory could feel overwhelmed when first starting their gameplay. Due to the considerable size of the roster of Vainglory heroes, it can be difficult for a new player to choose the best hero for them. In Vainglory, there are many heroes and each of these heroes has a unique gameplay and unique abilities. Some heroes are more suited to being played in the lane, and these heroes are called carries. Some heroes are more suited to be played in the jungle, and these heroes are called junglers. And some heroes are more suited to be played in the support role, and these heroes are called captains. The gameplay in each of these roles can be quite different in Vainglory. Considering that Vainglory is not only a competitive video game, but also a team video game, when choosing the hero to play it is important to consider the team composition. While in the early ranks of Vainglory many players do not pay attention to the strategy of the team composition, that teams that do, often are in advantage during the battle. For this reason, if your team already has 4 carries, consider playing as a jungler hero or as a captain hero. If your team has 4 junglers, consider playing as a long-ranged carry. Finding these gaps in your team composition is essential to climbing the ranks of Vainglory in the long-term. For this reason, while in my list of 10 best heroes of Vainglory for new players I included mostly carry heroes, since this is the most frequent role of heroes in battles, I also included some jungler heroes and some captain heroes.
New players and gamers beginning in Vainglory may look for top tier lists of heroes of Vainglory. My advice is that, while top tier lists can be useful in higher ranks and for professional gameplay, for most ranks tier lists are often not needeed. In early ranks, most players are not even using most of the abilities or heroic perks of their heroes fully anyway, not to the point in which utilizing the meta could be a game-changer. For example, Ardan's A ability generally grants not only a health barrier to an allied hero, but it also grants a movement speed bonus. The value of this movement speed bonus could change on certain metas, but will players playing with captain Ardan in early ranks be aware of using this movement speed bonus to help teammates escape some situations? Maybe experienced Ardan players, but not most players. New players and beginners of Vainglory often wonder which are the best heroes to start in this video game.
The best heroes of Vainglory for new players are Lance, Ardan, Krul, Taka, Koshka, Skaarf, Magnus, Baron, Gwen and Ringo.
10 - Lance
Lance is a captain hero, and one of the easiest captain heroes to learn how to play in Vainglory. Lance's abilities grant him great mobility, and he is able to root enemy heroes and also to stop certain enemy abilities with his B ability.
Depending on the build, Lance is also able to deal considerable damage with his A ability. Due to this versatility and also due to his quite useful abilities in the support role, Lance is an excellent choice of a captain hero for beginners and new players.
9 - Ardan
Ardan is a captain hero, and also one of the easiest captain heroes to learn how to play in Vainglory. Ardan's A ability is excellent for support, because it temporarily grants a health barrier to the targeted team member, and his B ability deals considerable damage to enemy heroes, especially in the early game.
With the right support build, Ardan can be one of the best captain heroes in Vainglory and is often played in all ranks. Moreover, learning how to play with Ardan does not take long. For this reason, Ardan is an excellent choice of a captain hero for new players in Vainglory.
8 - Krul
Krul is a jungle hero that has excellent abilities for ganking (which, in MOBA language, means surprising) enemy heroes. Krul benefits from temporarily hiding in bushes in the battlefield, because standing in these bushes for a short time enables Krul to receive a bonus to his movement speed, which is quite strategic for closing the distance between him and his target.
Krul can be easily learned, and his gameplay is quite simple. On the other hand, Krul lacks the mobility of other jungler heroes. For this reason, depending on the experience of the enemy team, Krul can be dodged. However, Krul is an excellent choice of a jungler hero for beginners in Vainglory.
7 - Taka
One of the earliest heroes of Vainglory, Taka is a jungler hero with excellent mobility and able to deal high amounts of damage. Taka also has the advantage of being versatile in both weapon builds and crystal builds.
While Taka has high mobility, has versatility and is able to deal high amounts of damage, Taka can be quite vulnerable to enemy attacks due to his lack of natural defenses, unlike Krul, for example. For this reason, when playing with Taka, it is important to attack and then get out of the teamfight, as Taka usually cannot sustain as much damage for prolonged periods time periods as other jungler heroes, such as Krul. Taka is a hero that is easy to learn how to play, being able to deal high amounts of damage. For this reason, Taka is an excellent choice of jungler hero for beginners in Vainglory.
6 - Koshka
Koshka is a jungler hero that is easy to learn how to play, and Koshka is able to deal high amounts of damage, while also having an excellent mobility. Koshka is particularly important during the early game and the middle game of Vainglory, which are usually the moments in which this hero can outperform enemy heroes during teamfights.
While Koshka has great mobility and also deals high amounts of damage, like Taka, Koshka lacks more natural defenses such as some other jungler heroes. For this reason, like Taka, Koshka is generally not able to sustain much damage during prolonged time periods. For this reason, like Taka, Koshka is best played in strategies of attacking and getting out of the teamfight. However, due to Koshka's high mobility and abilities that deal high amounts of damage, this is an excellent choice of jungler hero for new players.
5 - Skaarf
One of the earliest heroes of Vainglory, Skaarf is a carry hero that is able to deal high amounts of damage with his abilities. On the other hand, of the carry heroes of Vainglory, Skaarf is one with the least mobility.
Skaarf's A ability is able to deal a high amount of damage. Skillful Skaarf players are able to combine their A and B abilities to increase the damage dealt. Skaarf's B ability, when not used in combination with the A ability, is also able to slow down enemy heroes. Skaarf's abilities are excellent, able to deal high amounts of damage to enemy heroes and also to siege enemy turrets. On the other hand, the lack of mobility of this hero can be a challenge to new players that do not have much experience in games such as Vainglory, which require a strategic positioning of the hero. Considering that Skaarf is able to deal high amounts of damage and that it is quite easy to learn how to play with this hero, Skaarf is an excellent choice for new players.
4 - Magnus
Magnus is a carry hero of Vainglory. While I do not consider Magnus as easy to learn how to play as Skaarf, this hero is able to deal high amounts of damage and is also able to stun enemy heroes, which in the lanes of Vainglory is very useful.
As a carry hero, Magnus has an average mobility, but considering that Magnus is able to deal high amounts of damage and also stun enemy heroes, Magnus can be a formidable hero in the lane. For this reason, he is an excellent choice of carry hero for beginners.
3 - Baron
Baron is a carry hero of Vainglory, able to deal high amounts of damage either with his basic attack or with his abilities. While Baron's abilities require some timing and knowledge in order to be used, his natural long range of attack, and his B ability, allow Baron to deal considerable damage to enemy heroes and turrents, while also being able to get out of fights if necessary.
Baron is a versatile carry hero of Vainglory that can be played either with weapon or crystal builds. Considering that Baron is a versatile hero, able to deal high amounts of damage and also has an ability that allows him to get out of fights, Baron can be easily learned how to play. For these reasons, Baron is an excellent choice of carry hero for new players of Vainglory.
2 - Gwen
Gwen is a carry hero of Vainglory, able to deal high amounts of damage, either with burst damage builds or DPS (damage-per-second) builds. Gwen also has a high mobility, higher than most carry heroes of Vainglory.
Gwen can be easily learned how to play, and is able to deal high amounts of damage while also having a high mobility. On the other hand, as a carry hero, Gwen lacks abilities that increase her attack speed. In 1-on-1 fights in Vainglory, the attack damage is not the only thing that matters, as attack speed can often turn the tide of battle. For this reason, while Gwen is a great carry hero, I did not place her in the first place, due to this lack of abilities that increase attack speed, which some other carry heroes have. However, Gwen is an excellent choice for beginners.
1 - Ringo
One of the earliest heroes of Vainglory, and one of my personal favorite heroes of Vainglory, Ringo is a carry hero. For skilled players, Ringo has a very versatile set of abilities: his A ability is able to slow down enemy heroes and also deal a critical hit, his B ability is able to increase his attack speed, essential for 1-on-1 fights, and his Ultimate ability is able to chase enemy heroes for long distances and even if they are invisible.
Ringo is also quite easy to learn how to play, and he is able to deal considerable damage to enemy heroes in many different types of weapon builds. While more experienced players sometimes choose to use crystal builds with Ringo, I do not suggest trying to use crystal builds for this hero if you are a new player. The weapon builds for Ringo are very effective, and this carry hero is often able to deal high amounts of damage during teamfights. For this reason, Ringo is an excellent choice, and one of the best, of carry hero for new players of Vainglory.
