The Best Jungler Heroes of Vainglory

Vainglory was developed and published by Super Evil Megacorp. In Vainglory, the jungler role is, in general, the role that requires that highest mobility of the player. Jungler heroes have to rotate between farming in the jungle while also frequently trying to gank enemy heroes in the lane, often coordinating with their own team. Due to this strategic rotation and coordination, it is not recommended that new players play as jungler heroes, unless they have previous experience with other MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) video games.

Due to the ganking capacity of jungler heroes, along with their potential to farm in both ally and enemy jungles, as well as the unique abilities of jungler heroes, in Vainglory these heroes are often able to deal high amounts of damage, having a high influence on the outcome of teamfights. Most often than not, jungler heroes in Vainglory have high mobility due to specific passive or active abilities, and skilled players can use these abilities to get in and out of fights in the best moments.

Quite often, some Vainglory players like to draw top tier lists of the heroes of the game, highlighting the heroes that are performing well in the currenta meta of the game. The problem of wanting to use only the heroes that are in the top positions of tier lists is that the player will have difficulty becoming proficient in the heroes they like and in specific heroes, and instead they will be playing a rotating selection of heroes based on the changes of latest patches. For this reason, instead of creating a top tier list of jungler heroes, I selected the best jungler heroes of Vainglory based on their gameplay and on their possibilities in the game. Thus, this is not simply a top tier list based on the current meta, but instead, this is a list with the most versatile and game-changer jungler heroes of Vainglory, in my experience. Vainglory players who enjoy playing as jungler heroes may wonder which are the most effective jungler heroes of Vainglory.

The best jungler heroes of Vainglory are Reim, Petal, Joule, Taka, Reza, Krul, Blackfeather, Alpha, Grumpjaw and Koshka, due to high damage and high mobility.

10 - Reim

One of the earliest jungler heroes of Vainglory, Reim is a hero that compensates for his lack of mobility with abilities that are able to root the enemy hero. In MOBA language, a rooted enemy is an enemy that can't move for a certain time period.

Reim is a hero that is able to deal a high amount of damage as long as he is able to stay close to the enemy, and for this reason, if his rooting abilities are used well, Reim is able to defeat many heroes as long as he is engaged in a 1-on-1 fight. In teamfights, in which multiple heroes are strategically positioned in different locations, it is more difficult for Reim to do well. While Reim is a quite strong hero, I didn't place him higher in this list due to his lack of mobility.

In many cases, Reim is also quite strong early in the game and thus is a good choice to invade the enemy jungle, especially if accompanied by the team's captain hero. For example, a good combination of heroes to invade the enemy jungle early in the game is Reim and Flicker.

9 - Petal

Petal is one of the jungler heroes of Vainglory that is able to deal some of the highest amounts of damage, as long as Petal is able to stay on enemy targets. To be more precise, unlike other jungler heroes, Petal often does not do high burst damages such as other jungler heroes, but Petal is a high DPS (damage-per-second) jungler hero due to the combination of attacks with her and her minions.

While Petal is able to deal high damage as long as she keeps attacking her target, her weakness is that Petal's attack range is shorter than the attack range of most ranged heroes of Vainglory. In other words, while Petal deals high damage, she has to stay constantly in a not-so-safe distance from her target, making herself a vulnerable target. Of course, with the right build, Petal is able to slow her targets and also steal life with her attacks, making her a formidable opponent even when she is in close range. However, due to this constant need of having to stay closer to her targets than other ranged heroes, I did not place Petal higher in this list.

8 - Joule

Joule is also one of the easiest jungler heroes for new players to learn. This hero has a natural defense that makes her a strong opponent, including in the early game. Joule has an excellent ganking ability. However, if Joule's abilities are not used skillfully, it can be quite difficult to get out of a fight. In other words, Joule is excellent to get in fights, but does not do so well when having to get out of fights.

Along with her natural defense and good attack capabilities, Joule's Ultimate is vey useful for dealing high amounts of damage in the middle game and also for defeating fleeing heroes, especially if Joule's A is still recharging. Joule was not included higher in this list due to the difficulty of getting out of fights with this hero.

7 - Taka

One of the earliest jungler heroes of Vainglory, Taka is a hero with good mobility, excellent for ganking and for invading the enemy jungle. Taka's A ability makes him invulnerable for a short time period, while his B ability makes him invisible while also regenerating health points, and Taka's Ultimate ability is able to close the distance between Taka and far away enemies, while also dealing a high amount of damage and mortal wounds, which in Vainglory are a special type of damage which can't be as easily healed.

Taka is a hero that is quite easy to learn for new players. Due to Taka's unique abilities and good mobility, Taka is a well-rounded jungler hero for many team compositions. However, of the different jungler heroes of Vainglory, Taka is one of the most vulnerable. Unlike other jungler heroes with higher amounts of health points, defense and other systems that increase how much they can sustain damage, Taka is not able to sustain high amounts of damage, and if caught off-guard or at a moment when he can't go into stealth, Taka will often be an easy target. For this reason, while Taka is an excellent choice for new players and for early ranks in Vainglory, this hero can become increasingly difficult to play in higher ranks and against certain types of heroes that can counter his stealth or some of his abilities, such as Lyra.

6 - Reza

One of my favorite heroes, Reza is a very high-mobility hero that can get in and out of fights quite fast, and also deal high amounts of burst damage. While Reza is excellent at dealing burst damage, this is not a DPS hero, and for this reason, players have to bear in mind that this is a great hero to deal damage and move, but not so well at staying in a fight auto-attacking as would a carry hero.

Indeed, Reza's abilities have to be constantly used and alternated in a fight, and a skillful player knows the best moment in which to use each of his abilities. While Reza is technically a lane hero, I have often played with this hero in the jungle with excellent results. The downside of Reza is that he is quite vulnerable, like Taka, and players must also know the best moment to get out of a fight, as Reza can not sustain as much damage as some other heroes. However, Reza's Ultimate ability is quite useful for increasing how much damage he can sustain in a fight.

5 - Krul

One of the earliest jungler heroes of Vainglory, Krul is a hero that is easy to learn. When staying hidden in bushes, Krul is able to use his passive ability which he grants him increased speed of movement, which is excellent for ganking and chasing enemy heroes. His A ability grants him a health bonus, quite useful in fights. His B ability enables him to drain a significant amount of health points from his opponent, which is most strategically used when opponentes are trying to flee, and his Ultimate ability is able to stun enemy opponentes.

Krul has excellent ganking abilities and is a formidable warrior, often able to invade the enemy jungle on his own. The downside of Krul is that, if his abilities are not used skillfully, he has an overall lack of mobility.

4 - Blackfeather

One of my favorite heroes in Vainglory, Blackfeather is a late game hero that can be used either in the lane or in the jungle. Playing well with Blackfeather requires skill and knowledge of his abilities, but Blackfeather is one of the heroes with the highest mobility and is also able to deal high amounts of damage, either as burst damage or as DPS, depending on the chosen build.

While Blackfeather is a very strong hero during the late game, he is often not so strong during early and middle stages of the match, a reason why some players mistakenly think that this is a weak character. Blackfeather is able to gank enemy heroes, participate in teamfights during extended periods of time with the right build, and even defeat some of the strongest heroes in Vainglory.

3 - Alpha

One of my favorite heroes in Vainglory, Alpha is a hero that has some power spikes depending on the chosen build, and also requires some skill to play, because Alpha's A ability, while great for chasing enemies, is quite difficult for new players because this ability places Alpha very close to the enemy hero, and in some cases this can be quite dangerous, especially if the enemy hero is in the range of an enemy turret or if there are other enemy heroes in the same location.

Likewise, Alpha's Ultimate ability, which acts as an additional health bar, can be an excellent resource when fighting enemy heroes. However, it is important to remember that, if Alpha is defeated and her Ultimate ability is activated, Alpha will stay inactive for a short time period, during which she will become vulnerable.

Alpha is not an easy hero to learn how to play, but she can be a formidable warrior and an excellent jungler, both at ganking enemy heroes as well as participating in prolonged teamfights and sieges. Alpha is a well-rounded hero that can be played in all ranks.

2 - Grumpjaw

Grumpjaw is one of the toughest jungler heroes in Vainglory, especially in the early and middle game, due to Grumpjaw's abilities, which grant this character increased health points. At the same point, it is not difficult to learn how to play with Grumpjaw, and this hero can be used to invade the enemy jungle.

At the same time, Grumpjaw does not have a high mobility as some of the other jungler heroes mentioned in this list, such as Alpha and Blackfeather. However, due to his high attack and increased health points, Grumpjaw is an effective jungler.

1 - Koshka

One of the earliest heroes of Vainglory, while Koshka does not have as much natural defense as Grumpjaw, Krul or Reim, Koshka has a very high mobility, and is able to deal very high amounts of burst damage, especially in the early and middle game.

When playing with Koshka, it is important to remember that this is a very strong hero during the early and middle game, but not so strong at the late game. For this reason, during the early and middle game, Koshka players should farm in the jungle as much as possible and try to gank enemy heroes and participate in teamfights as much as possible, as this is strategically the best moment.

Koshka was included as number one in my list as this is a hero that is quite easy to learn, deals a high amount of damage, and has an excellent mobility, allowing Koshka players to get out of fights quite quickly if necessary. For this reason, Koshka is a well-rounded jungler hero that can be played well in many ranks, and is also a great choice for beginners.
