In Mount & Blade (2008) and Mount & Blade: Warband, the default key to dismount the horse is F. In Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, the default key to dismount is Z.
Reasons Why You May be Unable to Dismount in Mount & Blade
Some conditions are necessary in order to successfully dismount the horse in Mount & Blade video games.
1. The Speed of the Horse
One common reason for being unable to dismount the horse of your main game character in Mount & Blade is the speed at which the horse is running or trotting. If your horse if moving too fast, you will be unable to dismount it as the text prompt to dismount will not appear in the video game. Thus, you must first slow down the horse either to a walking pace or to stand still.
2. Pressing the Wrong Key
Another quite common reason for being unable to dismount the horse in Mount & Blade video games is pressing the wrong key. The default key to mount or dismount in Mount & Blade (2008) and Mount & Blade: Warband is the F key, while the default key to mount or dismount in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is Z. Make sure that you are pressing the adequate key for the video game you are playing. Moreover, if you have changed keybindings for your game, the key may be different. In this case, go to options and check the keybindings of your video game.
3. Wrong Camera Focus
An important factor of being able to dismount the horse in Mount & Blade video games is facing the horse of the main game character with the camera while also facing the ground. It may not be necessary to completely face the ground with the camera, but in most cases it may be necessary to move the camera in such a way that the ground becomes more visible. This method is helpful to dismount the horse in the Mount & Blade video games.
Differences to Dismount in Each Mount & Blade Video Game
In the original Mount & Blade, released in 2008, in order to dismount a horse, the player must move the game camera down, until the horse of the player character and the ground are clearly visible and at the center of the game camera. The player must also slow the horse enough to the point of the horse moving in trotting speed or walking speed, as the horse cannot be galloping. After the camera is in the adequate direction and the horse is at the adequate speed, when the camera is centered in the horse a text prompt will appear containing the text "Dismount". In this video game, the player can then press the F key of the keyboard in order to dismount the horse. If the player has changed the default key to dismount, then F might not work and the player must then check the button mapping section of the video game in order to check the current key to dismount.
In Mount & Blade: Warband, in order to dismount a horse, like in the original Mount & Blade video game, the player must move the game camera down, until the horse of the player character and the ground are clearly visible and at the center of the game camera, just like in the previous Mount & Blade game. The player must also slow the horse enough to the point of the horse moving in trotting speed or walking speed, as the horse cannot be galloping. While it is possible that the prompt containing the text "Dismount" will still appear if the horse is galloping, the player character will not be able to dismount if the horse is moving too fast, thus it is quite important to slow down the horse before. After the camera is in the adequate direction and the horse is at the adequate moving speed, when the camera is centered in the horse the text prompt containing the text "Dismount" will appear. In this video game, the player can then press the F key of the keyboard in order to dismount the horse. If the player has changed the default key to dismount, then Z might not work and the player must then check the button mapping section of the video game in order to check the current key to dismount.
In Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, to dismount the horse, the player must move the camera down until the game camera is facing the horse of the player character as well as the ground, just like in previous Mount & Blade video games, and then the player must press the Z key of the keyboard. However, unlike in previous Mount & Blade video games, in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, the horse must be standing still, and cannot be moving in slow movement speeds such as it could be walking or trotting in other Mount & Blade video games such as in Mount & Blade: Warband and in the original Mount & Blade video game. Besides the gameplay difference in the sense that the horse must have stopped, which is one important difference compared to the other Mount & Blade video games, the default key to dismount in this video game is Z, and not F like previous Mount & Blade video games. If the player has changed the default key to dismount, then Z might not work and the player must then check the button mapping section of the video game in order to check the current key to dismount.
